Action,Drama,Thriller  France,Spain

The Last Circus, also known as Balada triste de trompeta, is a Spanish film directed by Álex de la Iglesia and released in 2010. The movie tells the story of Javier, a young boy who witnesses the execution of his father by Franco's forces during the Spanish civil war. Traumatized by the events, Javier grows up with a deep hatred for the regime and becomes a sad clown in order to express his despair.

As an adult, Javier joins a circus where he falls in love with the beautiful trapeze artist Natalia. However, she is already engaged to Sergio, the abusive and violent leader of the clown troupe. Sergio soon realizes that Javier has feelings for Natalia and starts to torment him, pushing him towards a path of violence and revenge.

Throughout the film, Javier struggles to come to terms with his past and his identity as a sad clown. He becomes increasingly obsessed with violence and finds himself becoming more like the fascist soldiers who killed his father. The movie climaxes in a brutal showdown between Javier and Sergio, as Javier finally comes to grips with his inner demons.

The Last Circus is a dark and visually stunning film that explores themes of trauma, love, and political violence. It was well received by critics and won several awards, including the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 2010 Venice Film Festival.
