David is a struggling small-town construction worker who is separated from his wife Nikki, and is desperately trying to keep his family of six together during the separation. The couple has four children together and initially, they both agree to see other people during their separation.
David struggles to come to terms with the fact that Nikki has started seeing someone new, and his jealousy and insecurity escalate. Meanwhile, Nikki begins to lean on her new beau for emotional support, further complicating David's efforts to reconcile with his family.
As David's frustration mounts, he becomes increasingly volatile. And when he discovers that Nikki and her new partner are planning to move away with their children, he reaches a breaking point. The film climaxes in a tense and emotionally charged confrontation between David and Nikki's new partner, in which David must confront his own feelings and motivations in order to find a way forward.
