The Karate Kid is a 2010 martial arts drama film directed by Harald Zwart and starring Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan, and Taraji P. Henson. It is a remake of the 1984 film of the same name.

The story follows 12-year-old Dre Parker, who moves from Detroit to China with his mother due to her job. At his new school, Dre immediately falls for a girl named Mei Ying, but their cultural differences make it difficult for them to become friends. Things get even worse when Dre becomes the target of the school bully, Cheng, who is skilled in kung fu.

Dre finds solace in Mr. Han, the apartment building's maintenance man who also happens to be a kung fu master. Han reluctantly agrees to teach Dre kung fu, but under one condition - Dre must promise not to use it for violence. Through their training, Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about physical strength, but inner peace and calmness.

As Dre continues to face bullying and harassment from Cheng and his gang, he must use the skills he learned from Mr. Han to defend himself and his friends in a tournament that will test his physical and mental abilities.

The film was a commercial success and received generally positive reviews, with particular praise for the performances of Smith and Chan. The Karate Kid also earned Chan his first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
