The main character, a small-time pimp named Luca Canali (played by Mario Adorf), is living in Milan when he is framed for the theft of a shipment of heroin that was meant to be delivered to New York. The real thieves are a group of corrupt police officers and drug dealers who are working together to steal and sell the drugs for their own profit.

Meanwhile, in New York, two hitmen named Dave (played by Henry Silva) and Frank (played by Woody Strode) are dispatched to Milan to track down and eliminate the thief. They are hired by an American mafia boss named Sal (played by Adolfo Celi), who wants the drugs back and who believes that Luca is the culprit.

As Dave and Frank search for Luca, they soon realize that he is not the real thief and that they have been set up. They also learn that the corrupt police officers are now after Luca as well, hoping to eliminate any loose ends.

Luca teams up with a local prostitute named Barbara (played by Luciana Paluzzi) and together they try to escape from the hitmen and the police. They eventually discover the true identity of the real thief and set out to expose the corrupt officials involved in the drug trafficking.
