The Irishman is a 2019 American crime film directed and produced by Martin Scorsese, based on the 2004 book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt. The story follows the life of Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro), a World War II veteran and truck driver who becomes involved with a Pennsylvania crime family led by Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci).

Sheeran soon develops a close relationship with Bufalino and is tasked with carrying out "hits" for the mob. He eventually becomes involved with union leader Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Sheeran serves as Hoffa's bodyguard and confidant, but tensions rise as Hoffa's power and influence threaten the interests of the mob.

The film weaves together flashbacks from Sheeran's life, including his experiences in World War II, his relationships with his family, and his involvement with the mob and Hoffa. It concludes with Sheeran admitting to his involvement in Hoffa's disappearance and presumed murder.

The Irishman is notable for its extensive use of digital de-aging technology, which allows the actors to appear as younger versions of themselves. The film was well-received by critics, earning praise for its performances, direction, and writing. It was also nominated for numerous awards, including 10 Academy Awards.
