The Impossible is a 2012 disaster drama film directed by Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona. The movie is based on the true story of a Spanish family who survived the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The film stars Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, and Tom Holland.
Maria, Henry, and their three sons – Lucas, Thomas, and Simon – arrive at a luxury resort in Khao Lak, Thailand, to spend their Christmas vacation. On the morning after Christmas, while the family is lounging near the pool, a massive earthquake occurs offshore, triggering one of the most devastating natural disasters in history – the Indian Ocean tsunami.
The tsunami strikes the resort with an enormous force and separates the family members from each other. Maria and Lucas are swept away by the raging waters and must fight for survival against all odds.
