The Hypnotist is a Swedish psychological thriller film released in 2012, based on the novel of the same name by Lars Kepler. The film is directed by Lasse Hallström and stars Tobias Zilliacus, Mikael Persbrandt, Lena Olin, and Helena Af Sandeberg.
The story follows Detective Inspector Joona Linna (Tobias Zilliacus), who is investigating the brutal murder of a family in their home in Stockholm. The only survivor is 15-year-old Josef (Jonatan Bökman), who is in a coma and unable to provide information about the killer or his motives.
Desperate for leads, Linna turns to psychologist Erik Maria Bark (Mikael Persbrandt), who is known for his expertise in using hypnosis to access the memories of trauma victims. Despite his reluctance to get involved, Bark agrees to hypnotize Josef in the hope of uncovering vital information about the killer.
However, as the hypnotic sessions progress, Bark realizes that something is not quite right with Josef's memories. Meanwhile, the killer, Jurek Walter (Håkan Bengtsson), escapes from prison and sets his sights on finding and killing the only remaining member of the family, the daughter Nadja (Hypathia Larsson).
As Linna and Bark race against time to find Nadja before Walter does, they uncover a dark and disturbing conspiracy that threatens to destroy both of their lives.
The Hypnotist is a tense and suspenseful thriller with several unexpected twists and turns. The film's atmospheric cinematography and haunting score add to the sense of dread and foreboding that pervades the story.
