The Indian family consists of the Kadam family, who were forced to leave their home in India due to political conflicts. They eventually settle in a small town in the south of France, where they open a restaurant called Maison Mumbai. The restaurant is located just across the street from a high-end French restaurant called Le Saule Pleureur, which has been awarded a prestigious Michelin star.
The owner of Le Saule Pleureur, Madame Mallory, is initially displeased with the competition and tries to drive the Kadams out of business. However, she soon recognizes the culinary skills of the family's eldest son, Hassan, and offers to train him in the ways of French cuisine.
Hassan proves to be a quick learner and begins to incorporate French techniques and ingredients into the traditional Indian dishes that his family serves at Maison Mumbai. This fusion cuisine becomes a hit with the locals and attracts the attention of food critics from all over France.
As the Kadams and Madame Mallory work together to create culinary masterpieces, they also learn about each other's cultures and form a bond that transcends their initial animosity. However, their peace is threatened by the arrival of a rival French chef who sees the Kadams' success as a threat to his own career.
