The Hunchback of Notre Dame is an animated Disney film released in 1996. It is based on the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. The film follows the story of Quasimodo, a hunchback who lives in the bell tower of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. He is kept there by his evil guardian, Judge Claude Frollo, who raises him to believe that he is a monster and is not capable of living a normal life outside of the cathedral.

However, Quasimodo's life changes when he meets a beautiful gypsy named Esmeralda, who is being pursued by Frollo's soldiers. Quasimodo rescues her and brings her back to the cathedral, where he falls in love with her. Esmeralda, in turn, befriends Quasimodo and teaches him that he is not a monster and that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.

Meanwhile, Frollo becomes obsessed with Esmeralda and seeks to capture her by any means necessary. He declares war on the gypsies and orders his soldiers to burn down their camp. Quasimodo, Esmeralda, and a band of other outcasts team up to stop Frollo and save their city.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame was praised for its mature themes and complex characters, but also drew criticism for its dark tone and deviation from the original source material. Despite this, it remains a beloved classic in the Disney canon.
