The Humans is a 2021 drama film, adapted from the Tony Award-winning play of the same name by Stephen Karam. The story revolves around Erik Blake (Richard Jenkins), a retired factory worker who has gathered his family to celebrate Thanksgiving in his daughter Brigid's (Beanie Feldstein) new apartment in Manhattan. The family includes Erik's wife Deirdre (Jayne Houdyshell), Erik and Deirdre's other daughter Aimee (Amy Schumer), and Erik's mother Momo (June Squibb).

As they sit down to eat, tensions and resentments simmer beneath the surface, and secrets are revealed. Erik is worried about his health and his financial situation, while Deirdre struggles with Momo's deteriorating health. Aimee is dealing with a breakup and job loss, while Brigid and her boyfriend Richard (Steven Yeun) are dealing with the stress of hosting the family and financial insecurity.
