The Howling

The Howling is a 1981 horror film directed by Joe Dante and starring Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, and Christopher Stone. The film follows Karen White, a television news reporter who has a traumatizing encounter with a serial killer, Eddie Quist. In an attempt to recover from the incident, Karen and her husband Bill are sent to The Colony, a secluded rehabilitation center in the woods.

As Karen begins to interact with the odd inhabitants of The Colony, she realizes that they may not be what they seem. Strange occurrences begin happening, as Karen and Bill's personalities start to change. Karen starts experiencing hallucinations, and Bill becomes increasingly aggressive.

As the truth is slowly revealed, Karen discovers that The Colony is actually a colony of werewolves and that Eddie Quist was one of their own. With the help of a parapsychologist named Dr. Waggner, Karen tries to escape The Colony and expose their existence to the world.

The Howling was a critical and commercial success, and it is often cited as a classic example of the werewolf genre. The film spawned multiple sequels and has influenced numerous other horror films over the years.
