The House on Carroll Street is a 1988 political thriller film directed by Peter Yates. Emily Crane, played by Kelly McGillis, is fired from her job as a magazine editor for refusing to name names to the House Un-American Activities Committee during the McCarthy era in 1951. She takes a job as a companion to an elderly woman and moves into an apartment building on Carroll Street in New York.
