The House by the Cemetery

Horror  Italy

The House by the Cemetery is a 1981 Italian horror movie directed by Lucio Fulci. The movie follows the Boyle family as they move into a large but decrepit mansion in New England to escape urban life. Unbeknownst to them, the house has a gruesome history as the former residence of Dr. Freudstein, a mad scientist who conducted gruesome experiments on children to find the secret of immortality.

Soon after the Boyles move in, strange occurrences start to happen. The family's young son, Bob, claims to have seen a girl in the house who warns him to leave. Meanwhile, the family's real estate agent, Mr. Petersen, becomes obsessed with the history of the house and begins to investigate Dr. Freudstein's experiments.

As the supernatural events increase, the Boyles discover a sealed-off basement room that leads to Freudstein's laboratory. They soon realize that the scientist's experiments are still alive and well and that something malevolent is lurking in the basement. The family becomes trapped in the house as the horrors of the past come back to haunt them, leading to a terrifying climax.

The House by the Cemetery features Fulci's signature style of graphic violence, gore, and surreal imagery. The movie was heavily censored upon its initial release due to its extreme violence, but it has since gained a cult following and is regarded as a classic in the horror genre.
