The Forgotten Mansion in the Woods

Documentary  France

The House is a French drama film that follows the story of a family who inherits an old mansion in the middle of the forest from an unknown relative. The family - a couple and their two children - decide to spend the summer in the house and restore it to its former glory.

As they start renovating the house, they discover that it was once a popular health cure site that attracted famous visitors like Casanova and Voltaire. They also discover a spring on the property that had been blocked off by Nestlé, who had been using the water for their production.

Despite the family's enthusiasm for restoring the house, they encounter several challenges, including financial difficulties and family tensions. The oldest son is struggling with his own sense of identity and purpose, while the father is dealing with a mid-life crisis.

As the family works towards restoring the house, they also confront their own personal demons and come to a better understanding of themselves and each other. In the end, they not only restore the house to its former glory but also strengthen their bonds as a family.

The House is a poignant and visually stunning film that explores themes of family, heritage, and the passage of time. It stars French actors like Jalil Lespert, Julie Depardieu, and Dominique Reymond, and is directed by Gaël Morel.
