The High and the Mighty is a 1954 American disaster film directed by William A. Wellman and based on the novel of the same name by Ernest K. Gann. The movie stars John Wayne as Dan Roman, a veteran airline pilot, who is haunted by a personal tragedy from the past. As a result, he has been relegated to flying as a co-pilot rather than captain.
As the flight from Honolulu to San Francisco gets underway, everything seems to be going smoothly. However, things take a terrifying turn when the plane experiences a critical engine failure that puts the passengers and crew in grave danger. Dan Roman must use all his experience and ingenuity to try to save the plane and the people on board.
