The Heroes of Telemark is a 1965 British war film directed by Anthony Mann and starring Kirk Douglas and Richard Harris. The film is based on the true story of the Norwegian resistance during World War II who, with the help of British intelligence, launched a series of sabotage missions against the heavy water plant located in Vemork, Telemark, Norway.
The heavy water plant was critical to the Nazi's atomic bomb program and the sabotage of the plant was of utmost importance to the Allies. The film chronicles the efforts of the Norwegian resistance fighters, led by Knut Straud (Kirk Douglas) and Rolf Pedersen (Richard Harris), as they work to infiltrate the plant and destroy its production capabilities.
