The Heat is a 2013 action-comedy film directed by Paul Feig. It stars Sandra Bullock as FBI agent Sarah Ashburn and Melissa McCarthy as Boston P.D. detective Shannon Mullins. The two women team up to take down a drug lord named Larkin, but their wildly different personalities clash at every turn.
Sarah is a by-the-book agent who follows rules and procedures to a fault. She has a reputation for being uptight and aloof, and has a difficult time connecting with people on a personal level. Despite their initial animosity towards each other, the two women are forced to work together when a series of murders linked to Larkin's drug operation brings them together. As they investigate, they begin to realize that they may have more in common than they initially thought. Both women are outsiders who struggle to maintain personal relationships, and as they begin to open up to each other, they form an unexpected bond.
The Heat is a classic odd couple comedy with plenty of action and laughs. Its strong female leads subvert traditional gender roles in the buddy cop genre and provide a refreshing take on a familiar formula.
