The movie follows the Wyrick family- consisting of parents Lisa and Andy, their daughter Heidi, Lisa's sister Joyce, and their pet dog- as they move into a secluded house in rural Georgia. The house has been in Lisa's family for generations, but Lisa has never lived there and knows little about the property's history.
Soon after moving in, strange occurrences begin happening around the house and property, and Heidi starts experiencing vivid and terrifying visions of ghosts. The family reaches out to a local historian, who reveals that the property was once a stop on the underground railroad and that Lisa's ancestors were involved in helping slaves escape to freedom.
As the family adjusts to living with the ghosts, they discover that the spirits are connected to a tragic event that happened on the property involving a family member years earlier. They also learn that the ghosts are protecting a dark secret that was buried on the property, and that uncovering it could have deadly consequences for those involved.
The climax of the movie involves a dangerous and intense confrontation with the supernatural forces at work on the property, as the family fights to uncover the truth and protect themselves from harm. In the end, they must make a difficult decision about whether to stay in the house or move on, knowing that the ghosts may never leave them alone.
