The Hard Word is an Australian crime-comedy film directed by Scott Roberts. It stars Guy Pearce, Rachel Griffiths, and Joel Edgerton as three brothers, Dale, Mal, and Shane, who are bank robbers.

The brothers are serving time in prison and are approached by a corrupt lawyer, Frank (Robert Taylor), who offers them a deal to carry out a bank heist. The brothers agree, but are suspicious of Frank's motives. They soon discover that Frank is working with two crooked cops, Detective Logan (Damien Richardson) and Detective Twentyman (Vince Colosimo), who plan to double-cross them and take the money for themselves.

As the brothers plan their heist, tensions rise between them and their relationships become strained. Dale's wife Carol (Griffiths) tries to keep the peace while dealing with her own issues, including a twisted sexual relationship with Detective Twentyman.

The bank heist takes place, but the brothers are betrayed by Frank, Logan, and Twentyman. They manage to escape with the money but are pursued by the corrupt cops. In the end, there is a violent and unexpected twist that leaves the brothers' fate uncertain.

The Hard Word received positive reviews for its mix of humor and gritty crime drama. The performances of Pearce, Griffiths, and Edgerton were also praised.
