The Hammer is a 2010 biographical sports drama film that is based on the true story of Matt Hamill, a deaf wrestler who rose to fame in the world of wrestling. The movie follows Matt's life from his childhood in a small town in upstate New York to his college years when he became the first deaf wrestler to ever win a National Collegiate Wrestling Championship.
The film opens with a young Matt struggling to find his place in the world as a deaf child. He is often bullied and treated poorly by his peers, but always has the support of his grandfather who teaches him the value of discipline, hard work, and perseverance.
