The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is an upcoming Marvel Studios television special that will debut on Disney+. The plot of the special follows the Guardians of the Galaxy on a mission to make Christmas unforgettable for their leader Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord.
The team, consisting of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot, travel to Earth in search of the perfect present for Quill. While on Earth, they encounter a number of characters, including various holiday icons and some unexpected appearances from Marvel characters.
The special is being directed by James Gunn, who also directed both previous Guardians of the Galaxy films. It is set to begin shooting in 2021 and is expected to be released on Disney+ during the holiday season of 2022.
This special will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will take place after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is set to be released in 2023. It is currently unclear if any events from the special will have an impact on the larger MCU storyline.
