The Grissom Gang was released in 1971 and directed by Robert Aldrich. The film is set in the 1920s and follows the story of Barbara Blandish (played by Kim Darby), the daughter of a wealthy family who is kidnapped by the Grissom gang. The Grissom family is made up of a group of ruthless criminals led by Ma Barker lookalike, Kate Grissom (played by Irene Dailey), who are planning to hold Barbara for a ransom of $500,000.
As Barbara is held captive, she becomes somewhat sympathetic towards her captors, especially Slim Grissom (played by Scott Wilson), who develops romantic feelings towards her. However, their relationship becomes complicated when other members of the Grissom gang begin to turn on each other and betray their own family members.
The film is a dark and violent portrayal of a dysfunctional family and the havoc they wreak upon everyone around them. Despite being based on a novel by James Hadley Chase, the film deviates from the original story and features an entirely different ending.
The Grissom Gang was not a commercial success upon its release, but has since gained a cult following for its intense storyline and strong performances from its cast.
