Clockwork Vendetta: Betrayal in The Green Man

Comedy  United Kingdom

The Green Man is a 1956 British comedy film directed by Robert Day. It stars Alastair Sim as Hawkins and George Cole as William Blake. The film was based on the play, The Gay Dog, by Arthur Macrae.

Hawkins is a meticulous watchmaker who is also a secret assassin. He has been hired by a group of Middle Eastern men to kill high profile targets in Europe. His latest assignment is to kill a British politician who is staying at a remote hotel called The Green Man.

Hawkins arrives at the hotel and sets up a bomb in the room next to the politician's. However, he is discovered by William Blake, a bumbling vacuum salesman who is also staying at the hotel. Blake becomes suspicious of Hawkins' behaviour and decides to investigate.

As Blake follows Hawkins around the hotel, he begins to piece together the plan to kill the politician. With the help of a local police officer and hotel staff members, Blake tries to stop Hawkins before it's too late.

The film is a quirky British comedy with a stellar performance from Alastair Sim as the charming yet deadly Hawkins. It was generally well received by critics and audiences upon its release.
