The Great Raid is a 2005 war film directed by John Dahl and starring Benjamin Bratt, James Franco, and Connie Nielsen. The movie is based on the true story of the Raid at Cabanatuan during World War II in the Philippines.
The story follows the elite Sixth Ranger Battalion, a group of American soldiers who are tasked with a dangerous mission to rescue over 500 American prisoners of war who are being held captive by the Japanese army at the notorious Cabanatuan prison camp.
