The Great Mouse Detective is a 1986 animated film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The film is based on the children's book series, Basil of Baker Street, written by Eve Titus.
The story is set in Victorian London and follows the adventures of Basil of Baker Street, a brilliant detective who is a mouse, as he tries to solve the kidnapping of the toymaker, Hiram Flaversham, by the evil Professor Ratigan. Along with his loyal sidekick, Dr. David Q. Dawson, Basil tracks down leads and clues, overcoming obstacles and danger along the way.
The film is notable for being one of the first Disney animated films to use computer-generated imagery and for its darker and more mature tone compared to other Disney films of the time. It was also the first film to be released under the new name "Walt Disney Pictures" instead of "Walt Disney Productions".
