The Great Battle is a 2018 South Korean historical action drama film directed by Kim Kwang-sik, starring Jo In-sung, Nam Joo-hyuk, Park Sung-woong, and Bae Seong-woo. It is based on the Battle of Ansi, a decisive battle fought between the Goguryeo and Tang dynasties in 645 AD.
The movie depicts the story of General Yang Man-chu (played by Jo In-sung), a legendary warrior who is known for his strategic brilliance and devotion to his country. He is assigned to lead the defense of Ansi, a fortress located on the border of Goguryeo that is the last obstacle for Taizong's invading army to conquer.
Yang Man-chu is assisted by a young soldier named Sa-mul (played by Nam Joo-hyuk) and a group of loyal fighters who are determined to defend their land against overwhelming odds. The battle between the two armies lasts for 88 days, during which time the defenders of Ansi face hunger, fatigue, and disease, but refuse to surrender.
