The Goose Steps Out

Comedy  United Kingdom

The Goose Steps Out is a 1942 British comedy film, directed by Basil Dearden and Will Hay. It features Will Hay in the lead role of William Potts, a bumbling schoolteacher who is recruited by British Intelligence to impersonate a German spy. Potts is chosen because of his striking resemblance to the real spy, who has just been captured by the Germans.

Potts is armed with a briefcase full of secret documents, and is dropped into Germany via parachute. His mission is to infiltrate a German military school, in order to retrieve the plans for a new secret weapon that the Nazis are developing.

Upon arrival in Germany, Potts is mistaken for the real spy by a group of Hitler Youth students. He is forced to pose as a German instructor, and reluctantly begins teaching the young Nazis about British history and culture. Potts' attempts to sabotage the German war efforts lead to a series of hilarious mishaps and close calls.

As the plot unfolds, Potts uncovers a sinister plot by the Nazis to launch a surprise attack on London. With the help of his fellow British spies, Potts must stop the Germans from carrying out their plan, and save the day.

The Goose Steps Out was released at a time when Britain was at war with Germany, and it was intended to boost morale and poke fun at the enemy. It became a popular wartime movie, and has since become a classic of British comedy.
