Gary (played by Martin Freeman) is a former rock star who is now stuck playing jingles for commercials. He is in a long-term relationship with Dora (played by Gwyneth Paltrow), who works long hours as a real estate agent. They share an apartment together, but their relationship has lost its spark.
Gary is struggling with insomnia and often finds himself daydreaming about a mysterious woman. In his dreams, she enters his bedroom and seduces him. He becomes so obsessed with her that he starts to manipulate his own dreams so he can spend more time with her.
One day, Gary sees a bus billboard with a woman who looks just like the woman from his dreams. He becomes convinced that she is real and sets out to find her. This leads him to a chance encounter with her at a party.
The woman's name is Anna (played by Penelope Cruz), and she is a hotel maid. Although Anna is initially hesitant to get involved with Gary, the two begin a torrid affair. Gary is torn between his love for Anna and his loyalty to Dora, who is becoming increasingly distant.
As Gary becomes more involved with Anna, his dreams become more vivid and surreal. He is able to control his dreams to even greater degree, spending entire nights with Anna in a dream world.
The Good Night is a romantic dramedy that explores themes of love, infidelity, and the power of dreams. The film was directed by Jake Paltrow (Gwyneth Paltrow's brother) and features a talented cast, including Simon Pegg, Danny DeVito, and Michael Gambon.
