In The Good Guys and the Bad Guys, Marshal Flagg is played by Robert Mitchum and McKaye is played by George Kennedy. The film was directed by Burt Kennedy and released in 1969.
As Flagg and McKaye travel back to town together, they begin to reminisce about their past encounters. McKaye reveals that he is tired of being an outlaw and wants to retire, but he needs to pull off one last job in order to have enough money to do so. Flagg is skeptical of McKaye's intentions but agrees to help him take down Waco and his gang.
Along the way, Flagg and McKaye encounter a young woman named Susan who is traveling to the same town to start a new life. Flagg is immediately smitten with her, and she becomes a key player in their plan to stop Waco.
As they prepare for the final showdown, Flagg and McKaye recruit a group of unlikely allies, including a group of elderly men who are skilled sharpshooters. In a dramatic shootout, they are able to take down Waco and his gang, but not without some casualties.
In the end, Flagg and McKaye part ways, with Flagg deciding to retire and McKaye finally able to start a new life free from his past as an outlaw. The film ends with Flagg watching Susan ride off into the sunset, suggesting that he may not be fully retired after all.
