Passion in the Glass House

Romance,Drama  Czech Republic,Slovakia

The Glass Room is a film adaptation of Simon Mawer's novel of the same name. The story is set in the stunning Villa Tugendhat, a modernist masterpiece that was built in the 1930s in Brno, Czechoslovakia. The film explores the relationship between two women, Liesel Landauer and her friend Hana, against the backdrop of the changing political and social landscape of Europe in the lead-up to World War II.

Liesel is a wealthy Jewish socialite who hires the famous architect to design her dream home. She shares the house with her husband Viktor, an industrialist and a lover of modern art. The Glass Room, the centrepiece of the villa, is a unique space made entirely of glass with no walls, symbolising the transparency and openness of their relationship.

As the Nazis rise to power, Liesel and Viktor's idyllic life is shattered. They flee the country, leaving behind their beloved Villa Tugendhat. Hana, a gentle-natured nurse who worked for the family, stays behind and becomes the new owner of the house.

Years later, Liesel and Hana reunite in the house that was once their home. They reminisce about their past, their shared loves, and the loss that they've experienced. Their relationship, which was once innocent and playful, takes on a new depth as they try to come to terms with the ghosts of their past.

The Glass Room is a moving exploration of love, identity, and belonging. The film is directed by Julius Sevcik and stars Carice van Houten, Hanna Alstrom, and Claes Bang. The stunning visuals and emotive performances make this film a profound and thought-provoking cinematic experience.
