The gangster, Marty "Fats" Murdock, is desperate to make something of his girlfriend Jerri Jordan's singing career, despite her lack of talent. He enlists the help of the alcoholic press agent, Tom Miller, who is initially resistant but ultimately agrees to take on the challenge.
Tom works tirelessly to transform Jerri into a star, organizing publicity stunts and arranging for her to record a series of songs. However, despite his efforts, Jerri's lack of talent becomes increasingly evident as the weeks go by.
As Tom and Jerri spend more time together, they begin to develop feelings for each other. Marty, who is possessive and controlling, becomes suspicious of their relationship and starts to interfere with their plans.
In a dramatic turn of events, Jerri's lack of talent is exposed during a live television performance, leading to a confrontation between Marty, Tom, and Jerri. As the truth comes out, Marty is forced to face his own insecurities and the depth of his feelings for Jerri.
Ultimately, Marty realizes that Jerri's happiness is more important than his own ambitions and decides to let her go. Tom and Jerri's love for each other prevails, and they continue to pursue their dreams together, finding success in each other's arms.
