Comedy,Romance  United States of America

The Gilded Lily is a romantic comedy-drama film released in 1935. The movie stars Claudette Colbert as Marilyn "Lynn" David, Fred MacMurray as reporter Pete Dawes, and Ray Milland as British aristocrat Charles Gray Granville.

Lynn is a stenographer working for a New York magazine, and she meets Gray when he comes to the office for an interview. Despite his initial snobbery towards her working-class background, the two eventually fall in love. However, when Gray returns to England to fulfill his family duties and become engaged to a wealthy heiress, Lynn is heartbroken.

Pete, who has secretly loved Lynn for years, learns of Gray's betrayal and publishes an article claiming that Lynn had rejected the aristocrat's marriage proposal. The publicity turns Lynn into a media sensation and attracts Gray back to New York.

Lynn is torn between her feelings for the two men, but ultimately chooses Gray. However, she realizes that Gray is not the man she thought he was and breaks off their engagement. In the end, Lynn and Pete confess their love for each other, and the movie ends with the two of them together.

The film was a box office success and received favorable reviews for its performances and charming storyline. It was remade in 1955 as The Twinkle in God's Eye, which starred Mickey Rooney and Shirley Jones.
