The Ghost and the Darkness is a 1996 film based on true events that took place in Tsavo National Park, Kenya in the late 19th century. The movie follows the story of two man-eating lions who terrorize a railroad construction crew, causing delays and severe casualties.

Sir Robert Beaumont (played by Tom Wilkinson), a wealthy businessman, has invested a significant amount of money for the construction of a railroad that would connect Uganda to the coast of Kenya. However, the progress of the project comes to a halt as workers begin to disappear at night, seemingly killed by a pair of ferocious lions.

Beaumont hires the renowned engineer and bridge builder John Henry Patterson (played by Val Kilmer), to oversee the construction and deal with the lion problem. Patterson, soon realizes that the lions are not just any ordinary predators but instead, they are cunning, intelligent, and fearless. Patterson, along with the African workers, try to outsmart and hunt the lions, but they constantly fail and the lions continue to wreak havoc.

As the death count rises, Patterson sends a request to the legendary big-game hunter Charles Remington (played by Michael Douglas) to help him take down the lions. Remington arrives with his trophy wife (played by Emily Mortimer) and initially underestimates the challenge that lies ahead. However, as the lions continue to taunt and outsmart them, Remington and Patterson set aside their differences and team up to take down the maneaters.

The movie features intense hunt scenes, breathtaking landscapes, and great performances by the cast. The Ghost and the Darkness is a thrilling adventure film that depicts the true story of the legendary Tsavo Man-Eaters that left a lasting legacy in the history of Tsavo National Park.
