The Gate is a horror movie released in 1987 and directed by Tibor Takรกcs. The film follows the story of three young children, Glen (Stephen Dorff), Terry (Louis Tripp), and Al (Christa Denton), who start digging a hole in their suburban backyard after their tree is struck by lightning. They accidentally discover an ancient gateway to a dimension of evil, and as they continue to dig, they unknowingly release an army of demons into their world.
The movie presents a classic battle between good and evil as the kids are faced with the challenge of battling the demon army and closing the portal to their world. The trio of youngsters is aided by a metal-loving friend, who helps them realize that they can use heavy metal music played backwards to repel the demons.
