The Garden of Sinners: A Study in Murder (Part 1), also known as "Overlooking View," is a 2007 Japanese animated movie produced by ufotable. It is the first installment in the seven-part film series, based on a light novel series written by Kinoko Nasu.
The movie begins with the introduction of the two main characters, Mikiya Kokuto and Shiki Ryogi. They first meet each other on a snowy day in August 1995 when Mikiya sees Shiki wearing a white kimono. They don't interact much at that time, but Mikiya is intrigued by Shiki's mysterious aura.
Later on, Mikiya and Shiki both enroll in the same high school and attend the freshmen ceremony. Mikiya recognizes Shiki in the crowd and chases after her to introduce himself. They become friends and spend time together, but Mikiya senses that there is something unusual about Shiki.
At the same time, a series of bizarre murders occur in the city, and the police are unable to find any clues or suspects. The victims seem to have no connection to each other, but they all have one thing in common – they were killed by a sharp object that left no trace of its origin.
As Mikiya and Shiki investigate the murders, they discover that there is a connection between the victims and a mysterious girl named Azaka Kokutou, who is also a student at their school. Shiki has an uneasy feeling about Azaka and suspects her of being involved in the murders somehow.
Meanwhile, Shiki's own past begins to catch up with her. She has a split personality known as SHIKI, who is the culprit behind the murders. Shiki struggles to keep her other personality under control, and Mikiya is there to support her throughout the ordeal.
