The Fourth Musketeer is a 1974 film adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' famous novel, The Three Musketeers. The film stars Michael York as d'Artagnan, Oliver Reed as Athos, Richard Chamberlain as Aramis, Frank Finlay as Porthos, and Raquel Welch as Constance Bonacieux.
The story follows d'Artagnan as he arrives in Paris to join the Musketeers, hoping to follow in the footsteps of his father. However, he soon finds himself caught in the middle of a power struggle between King Louis XIII (played by Jean-Pierre Cassel) and Cardinal Richelieu (played by Charlton Heston).
The Musketeers are loyal to the king and sworn enemies of the Cardinal's Guardsmen, who are tasked with protecting Richelieu's interests. However, d'Artagnan's brash and impulsive nature soon leads him to become involved with both groups.
Things come to a head when the Cardinal attempts to frame the queen (played by Geraldine Chaplin) in a plot to discredit her and seize the throne. The Musketeers, aided by d'Artagnan, set out to clear her name and foil the Cardinal's plans.
The Fourth Musketeer is an action-packed adventure film, featuring thrilling sword fights, daring rescues, and political intrigue. While it takes some liberties with Dumas' original story, the film stays true to the spirit of the novel and remains a beloved adaptation to this day.
