The Four Feathers is a 2002 film directed by Shekhar Kapur and stars Heath Ledger, Kate Hudson, and Wes Bentley. The film is based on the novel of the same name by A.E.W. Mason.
The story begins in 1875, during the height of the British Empire. Harry Faversham (Heath Ledger), a young officer in the British Army, decides to resign his commission just before his regiment is due to go to war in the Sudan. Harry's friends and fiancée (Kate Hudson) send him four white feathers, a traditional symbol of cowardice, to shame him for his decision. Harry feels compelled to prove his courage and honor, and decides to go to the Sudan on his own.
In a desperate attempt to redeem himself, Harry disguises himself as an Arab and sets out to find his former comrades, who are now fighting against rebels led by the Mahdi (Djimon Hounsou). Along the way, Harry faces many dangers and challenges, including capture and torture by the Mahdi's forces.
As the conflict in the Sudan reaches its climax, Harry's true identity is revealed, and he must fight a final battle to prove his loyalty and courage. With the help of his former comrades, Harry emerges victorious, and is finally able to return home and face the consequences of his actions.
