The Taekwondo Obsession: A Martial Arts Melodrama

Comedy  United States of America

The Foot Fist Way is a 2006 independent comedy film directed by Jody Hill and starring Danny McBride. The movie follows the life of an inept taekwondo instructor named Fred Simmons (played by McBride) who lives in a small town in North Carolina. Fred is struggling with his marriage and his dedication to taekwondo, as his wife is having an affair with his own idol, Chuck "The Truck" Williams, a famous martial artist.

Fred's taekwondo school is failing, and he is forced to rely on his most devoted student, a shy and overweight teenager named Henry (played by Ben Best). The movie is a satire of martial arts culture, with many of its jokes stemming from Fred's ignorance and misplaced discipline. Despite his lack of talent, Fred refuses to give up his dream of becoming a successful and respected martial artist.

The Foot Fist Way premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006 and received positive reviews from critics. It was produced by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell, and helped launch the careers of McBride and Hill. The movie's low-budget and local setting helped contribute to its cult classic status.
