Leo struggles with writer's block and the pressure to maintain her public persona as Amanda Gris. She seeks solace and advice from her friend Betty, a successful writer, who encourages her to be honest with her readers and write about her own struggles.
Leo's emotional turmoil is heightened when she discovers that Paco has been having an affair with her sister Rosa. Leo goes on a trip to London where she meets with a literary agent and a critic who are intrigued by the possibility of a new, more authentic style of writing from Leo. This leads her to write a dark, semi-autobiographical novel about her own life.
As Leo's novel gains critical acclaim, Paco returns to Spain and attempts to reconcile with her. However, Leo realizes that she cannot continue in her marriage and chooses to leave Paco. The film ends with Leo starting a new chapter in her life, both professionally and personally.
