The Flight of Dragons is a 1982 animated fantasy film, directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. The movie combines elements of fantasy, science fiction, and mythology to tell a tale of magic, technology, and heroism.
The story is inspired by the book of the same name by Peter Dickinson. It follows Peter as he is transported by magic to the realm of Dragonkind, where he meets the wizard Carolinus and learns of the impending war between magic and logic. To aid Peter in his quest, Carolinus summons three dragons: Gorbash, who is impulsive but brave, Smrgol, who is wise and skilled in magic, and Bryagh, who is spiteful but ultimately loyal. Together, the four companions journey through dangerous lands, face terrifying monsters, and battle Ommadon's minions.
The movie features an impressive voice cast, including James Earl Jones as Ommadon, John Ritter as Peter Dickinson, and Harry Morgan as Carolinus. It also boasts stunning animation and an epic score by Jules Bass.
In the end, Peter and his companions successfully destroy Ommadon and restore the balance between magic and logic. Peter decides to stay in the realm of Dragonkind, realizing that he now belongs to a world where science and magic can coexist harmoniously.
