"The Fighter" is based on the true story of Micky Ward, a boxer from Lowell, Massachusetts. Micky is managed and trained by his half-brother Dicky Eklund, a fallen boxer and drug addict who had gained fame for knocking down Sugar Ray Leonard in a fight. Micky's career is struggling due to his family's influence and the inability to break free from their control. He meets Charlene, a bartender who helps him see that there may be a way out. Meanwhile, Dicky gets arrested for robbery and sentenced to prison, leaving a gap in Micky's training. Micky decides to train with a new coach and eventually challenges the world light welterweight title, against all odds. The film portrays the challenges Micky faces in navigating the world of boxing, his complicated family relationships, and the struggles of addiction, redemption, and redemption in life. The Fighter won two Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Christian Bale's performance as Dicky.
