The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir follows the story of Ajatashatru Oghash Rathod, a con artist also known as a fakir who tricks his local village in Rajasthan, India into believing he possesses special powers. He uses his charm and trickery to convince the villagers to give him money for blessings and miracles.
One day, Ajatashatru hears about a bed of nails that can be purchased at an Ikea store in Paris. He hatches a plan to deceive his village into believing that he will use his powers to fly to Paris and return with the bed of nails. The villagers eagerly provide him with the necessary funds for his journey.
Ajatashatru embarks on his journey to Paris, hoping to fulfill his promise to the villagers. Along the way, he meets several colorful characters including a Sudanese migrant named Somalian, a woman named Marie who he falls in love with, and an illegal immigrant named Adel who helps him overcome various obstacles.
As Ajatashatru continues on his journey, he discovers the power of love and the importance of honesty. He faces several challenges and setbacks, but ultimately realizes that his true power lies in his ability to bring joy and help others in need.
The movie is an adaptation of Romain Puertolas' novel The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe. It stars Dhanush as Ajatashatru, with a supporting cast that includes Erin Moriarty, Bérénice Bejo, and Barkhad Abdi. The film was directed by Ken Scott and released in 2018.
