Tom Reilly, played by Zach Braff, is a struggling New York City cook who dreams of opening his own restaurant. He's married to Sofia Kowalski, played by Amanda Peet, who is a successful corporate lawyer. After Sofia becomes pregnant, Tom decides to take a job at his father-in-law's advertising firm in the suburbs.
