The Evil That Men Do is a 1984 action thriller film directed by J. Lee Thompson and starring Charles Bronson as Holland, a retired hitman who is forced to return to his murderous ways to seek revenge against a sadistic doctor who is responsible for torturing and killing innocent people in a Central American country.
The film begins with Holland living a quiet life in a small town in Spain with his girlfriend Rhiana, trying to forget his past as a hitman. However, his peaceful existence is shattered when he receives news that his old friend and fellow journalist, Clements, has been murdered by the sadistic doctor Clement Molloch (played by Joseph Ferrer) who is notorious for his use of torture to extract information from his victims.
Determined to avenge his friend's death and put an end to Molloch's reign of terror, Holland sets out to gather information about the doctor's whereabouts and activities. He poses as a journalist and teams up with Clements' widow and daughter, who are also seeking justice, to draw Molloch out of hiding.
Holland's plan is to kidnap Molloch's sister and use her as leverage to force the doctor to face him. However, the plan goes awry when Molloch discovers the truth and sets out on a brutal pursuit of Holland, Rhiana, and the other journalists. The chase leads them to an abandoned opal mine where the final showdown takes place between Holland and Molloch.
The Evil That Men Do is a tense, violent, and action-packed thriller that showcases Charles Bronson's tough-guy persona and his trademark stoicism. Although the film is somewhat formulaic and predictable, it is well-directed by J. Lee Thompson, who also directed Bronson in the classic action film, The Guns of Navarone. The supporting cast includes Theresa Saldana, René Enríquez, and José Ferrer, who delivers a menacing performance as the sadistic Doctor Molloch.
