Frank Perry, played by Brian Cox, has been locked up in prison for twelve long years and has no chance of parole. He is consumed with guilt over his past and has lost touch with his family, particularly his daughter, who is now seriously ill. Perry is determined to make amends with his daughter before it's too late.
Despite the odds against him, Perry comes up with a daring plan to escape from his maximum-security prison. He recruits a group of fellow inmates, each with their own set of unique skills, to help him pull off the impossible. But these inmates are far from reliable or trustworthy, and they don't get along well with each other. However, all of them share a common goal of getting out of prison and starting a new life.
The movie takes place both in the present and in flashbacks to Perry's earlier life. It gradually reveals the events that led up to his incarceration and the strained relationship with his daughter. The audience is also introduced to the other prisoners, each with their own backstory, motivations, and fears. The movie builds up the tension as the group plans and rehearses their escape, and finally executes the plan on the fateful day.
The film is a suspenseful and engaging story of redemption, unlikely alliances, and the human capacity to overcome adversity. With its immersive cinematography, excellent cast, and tight script, The Escapist is a must-watch for fans of prison dramas and heist movies.
