The Emerald Forest is a 1985 adventure drama film directed by John Boorman and based on a true story. The movie tells the story of Bill Markham, a successful engineer who moves to Brazil with his wife and young son Tommy to work on a project to build a dam in the Amazon rainforest.

While exploring the forest one day, Tommy disappears without a trace. Despite an extensive search, he is not found. Ten years later, Bill, who has never given up hope of finding his son, encounters a group of Amazon tribespeople and is shocked to discover that Tommy is alive and living amongst them.

Tommy, who has grown up among the tribe, has a deep connection with the forest and its inhabitants. He has learned their skills and is respected by them. He is wary of leaving the forest, even to return to his former life with his family in the modern world.

Bill is determined to rescue his son from what he believes is a savage and primitive life. He enlists the help of a tribal elder and eventually manages to bring Tommy back to civilization. However, Tommy finds it difficult to adjust to his old life, and the clash of cultures puts him at odds with his father.

As the story unfolds, The Emerald Forest raises important questions about the relationship between man and nature, the consequences of modernization, and what it really means to be civilized. With stunning cinematography and a powerful story, the movie is a breathtaking and thought-provoking adventure.
