Elmer is a mischievous elf who often gets into trouble in the North Pole. One day, while Santa is away, Elmer steals his sleigh to go on a joyride. However, he accidentally flies through a portal that takes him to the real world.
Lost and alone, Elmer tries to find his way back to the North Pole. Along the way, he meets a group of children and decides to pretend to be a real boy in order to fit in. He starts going to school, making friends, and even has a crush on a girl named Sarah.
As Christmas approaches, Elmer realizes the consequences of his actions. He feels guilty for stealing Santa's sleigh and for lying to his new friends about being a real boy. Elmer decides to come clean with the children and tell them the truth about who he really is.
Together, Elmer and the children come up with a plan to return Santa's sleigh and help Elmer get back to the North Pole. In the end, Elmer learns the importance of honesty and friendship and is welcomed back into the elf community with open arms.
