The Eiger Sanction is a 1975 thriller directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. The movie follows the story of Jonathan Hemlock, a former assassin for a covert US government agency who retired to become a college professor and art collector. Hemlock is also an experienced mountain climber who has scaled the Eiger in the Swiss Alps.
Hemlock is coerced out of retirement by his former boss, Dragon, who informs him that one of their mutual friends, a fellow mountain climber named Ben Bowman, has been murdered. Dragon suspects that Bowman was killed because of a valuable art collection that he possessed, and he wants Hemlock to take revenge by assassinating the killer.
To accomplish this, Hemlock is sent on a climbing expedition to the Eiger, where he is to identify and eliminate the murderer. Hemlock assembles a team of fellow climbers to assist him in the dangerous ascent, including a rookie climber named Miles Mellough who doubles as a photographer.
As the team climbs the treacherous mountain, Hemlock begins to suspect that all is not as it seems. He also becomes embroiled in a romantic relationship with a woman named Jemima Brown, whom he meets at the base camp.
The climactic showdown takes place at the summit of the Eiger, as Hemlock faces off against his old enemy in a thrilling climax filled with danger, drama, and suspense.
