Yamashita's wife's lover is his former colleague, who begs for his forgiveness before Yamashita kills him. In prison, Yamashita befriends an eel and treats it as his confidante and therapist. When he is released, he takes the eel with him and sets up his barber shop in a remote, rural village. Keiko is a young woman who is also dealing with trauma and emotional pain, and Yamashita is initially reluctant to take her on as an apprentice and employee at his shop. However, over time, the two develop a bond as they share their stories and support each other. Yamashita also begins to reconnect with the world around him and interact with other villagers, including the local police officer who keeps a watchful eye on him. In the end, Yamashita is able to forgive himself for his past actions and move forward into a new chapter of his life.
