In The Edge, Charles Morse (played by Anthony Hopkins) is a billionaire businessman who finds himself stranded in the Alaskan wilderness after their private plane crashes. Morse is accompanied by his wife's assistant Stephen (played by Harold Perrineau) and fashion photographer Robert Green (played by Alec Baldwin), whom he suspects of having an affair with his wife.
As the trio tries to survive in the wild, they encounter various challenges, including the harsh elements, limited food and water, and a massive Kodiak bear that seems to be out to get them.
At first, Charles relies heavily on his book-smarts and vast knowledge to help them survive. He shares his wisdom on how to build a shelter, make a fire and find food. Eventually, Robert discovers a map that leads them to a river that can guide them back to civilization.
However, tensions rise between Charles and Robert, partly due to the latter's affair with Charles' wife, but also because of their opposing personalities and approach to survival.
As the situation grows more desperate, Charles becomes more paranoid and suspects Robert of trying to kill him. In a tense scene, Charles confronts Robert and they engage in a vicious fight that ends with Charles seemingly defeating Robert.
Eventually, Charles and Stephen are rescued and return to civilization. Charles discovers that his wife did indeed have an affair with Robert, but she insists that it was over by the time of the crash. Charles is left to ponder the lessons he learned in the wilderness and the primal nature of survival.
